  •  FSSAI Registration: These are acquired by the petty food manufacturers and also the small-sized manufacturers, transporters, retailers, storage units, marketers, distributors, etc. FSSAI Registration is issued by the respective State Government, depending upon the eligibility of FBO. It is generally for the units having an annual turnover of up to INR 12 lakhs. The tenure of license is for 1-5 years.
  •  FSSAI Registration State License: Small to medium-sized manufacturers, retailers, transporters, marketers, storage units, distributors, etc., are eligible for acquiring this license. It is mandatory to have operations in a single state. FSSAI license is issued by respective State Government. Generally, units having an annual turnover of more than INR 12 lakhs are covered here. Validity of license ranges from 1-5 years.
  •  FSSAI Registration Central License: Food business operators like importers, 100% Export Oriented Units (EOU), large manufacturers, operators in the Central Government agencies, airports, seaports etc., are required to obtain a Central Food License. Central Government is responsible for issuing the License. Furthermore, FBOs have to obtain the Central License for their head office, and if they have operations in more than one state. The units having an annual turnover of more than INR 20 crores are covered in this category. Validity of license ranges from 1-5 years.

Further, applicability of license acquisition will depend upon the nature, size and type of business.

1. What is FSSAI Registration?

FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) provides food licenses to every food business in India along with that it looks after the safety of the customer and the product. As per the FSSAI Act 2006, it is necessary for every food business owner to apply for an FSSAI license in India. FSSAI registration helps the food business owners to avail of various benefits through it.

As per the FSSA Act 2006, it is mandatory to get an FSSAI license for every food business owner in India. FSSAI registration is segregated in 3 different categories as mentioned below:

    • Basic FSSAI registration
      It is required when the annual turnover is less than 12 lakhs rupees, a food business operator (FBO) should apply for Basic FSSAI registration.

 

    • State FSSAI registration
      It is required when the annual turnover is more than 12 lakhs rupees and less than 20 crores; a FBO should apply for State FSSAI registration.

 

  • Central FSSAI license registration
    It is required when the annual turnover is more than 20 crores; a FBO should apply for Central FSSAI registration.

Yes, All Food Service Operators including medical stores have to acquire FSSAI License.

 

You can avail of FSSAI registration within 7 working days through MAS.

If a person or the company found guilty for not filing FSSAI registration can be punished

  • With imprisonment extending up to six months and/or
  • Fine this may be up to INR 5 Lakh.

Food Business Operators (FBOs) with food business in two or more states has to apply for an additional Central License for its registered Office or Head Office. The separate license or registration has to be obtained for each unit or premise depending upon their individual capacity or turnover from the concerned Central or State licensing authority.

For the export of food products from India, there is no requirement of obtaining a NOC from FSSAI
